The architectural practice of Sauerbruch Hutton designed the Immanuel Church in Cologne, Germany in a parish garden that is defined by several trees so that it allows outdoor activities and worship and transforms the garden into the central element of the project. This project initiates the transformation of a former harbour area in the south of Stockholm into the new ecological district of Hammarby Sjöstad. 'Upgrade' explores architectural and design concepts that seek to enhance and repurpose our surroundings from slight changes to complete renovations. Extensions upon a rooftop. The offices use groundwater from the Rhine as a source of geothermal energy and to supplement the heating and cooling systems, while also carefully building above the 100-year water level and to flood defence specifications.
